YEAR 11 students at Belmont Comprehensive School, in Durham City, broke all records in the GCSE exams this year.
Overall, 52 per cent of students achieved five A* to C grades and 98 per cent achieved at least one pass.
Both were significant improvements on last year's results, which were the school's previous best.
Exceptional individual results include Helen Wilson, who gained ten A* passes and an achievement award for the best result in food technology in England and Wales. Rebecca Burns achieved five A*s and six As, Yvonne Claydon seven A*s and three As, Matthew Carroll eight As*, one A and one B, Sarah Smith seven A*s and 3As, Andrea Callum seven A*s and three Bs.
Headteacher Pat Howarth said: "These results demonstrate that the excellent relationship between staff and students identified by Ofsted is achieving real improvements in standards. The whole school community rightly deserves to be congratulated for these outstanding results."
