HMS Newcastle is returning to its home city this week on a goodwill visit.
The ship last visited Newcastle in March last year and has since completed a 43,000-mile trip around the globe.
It will arrive on Thursday and will be berthed at the newly-refurbished Spillers Wharf until Tuesday, September 11.
On Friday, the ship's company will exercise its freedom of the city with a parade, starting at the Civic Centre at 11am.
In addition to their formal engagements, the crew will renew their friendships with Percy Hedley School, Newcastle General Hospital and the local sea cadet units.
Commander Steve Pearson, HMS Newcastle's commanding officer, said: "The ship's company and I have a tremendous affection for the city, not least because of the amazing welcome that we are given."
There will be opportunities for members of the public to visit the ship during its stay on Saturday, from 2pm to 5.30pm, and on Sunday, from 2pm to 5.30pm.
