MORE than 20,000 people flocked to an east Durham town during the weekend to enjoy one of the biggest carnivals it has staged.
Each summer, Peterlee's two-day show attracts visitors from all over the region.
Thanks to sponsorship by Orange, NSK and Modus Properties, this year's event was even bigger than usual.
Bill Jeffrey, carnival committee chairman, said: "It has been absolutely fantastic and people kept coming up to me and saying the carnival was getting better every year.
"There was something for everyone and we had a brilliant turn-out."
The event began on Saturday with a grand parade through the town to the Helford Road playing fields.
Entertainment included the Jez Avery mountain bike stunt show, the Mountgrace gundogs display team, falconry displays, magic shows and comedy strongmen.
Visitors were also able to enjoy fairground rides, arts and crafts stalls, a horticultural show, and a Punch and Judy show.
There was also a soft play area for youngsters, police community display unit, whippet racing, vintage cars, and an armed forces and cadets display tent.
The highlight of the show was Saturday night's Battle of the Bands competition and spectacular fireworks finale.
