UNCERTAINTY still surrounds the future of 1,600 jobs at a North-East electronics company.
Viasystems, which manufactures circuit boards, is thought to be about to announce the closure of its two factories on Tyneside.
Union representatives met company officials on Friday, but the talks failed to shed any light on the future of the plants.
Senior managers from Viasystems sites across the country met in London over the weekend to consider the situation, and officials of the Amalgamated Engineering and Electrical Union (AEEU) have requested an urgent meeting with Tyneside executives when they return this week.
Viasystems is involved in a dispute over a £24m grant used to set up operations on Tyneside, three years ago.
Scottish MP Christine Grahame is calling for an inquiry into the closure of two plants in the Scottish Borders in 1998, which happened at the same time.
She claims that the grant was one of the main reasons that the company transferred production from Scotland to the North-East.
The terms of the grant on Tyneside are about to run out, prompting fears that Viasystems is about to pull out of the region.
