HEARTBROKEN parents Brian and Anette Clarke have hit out at a judge who jailed their daughter's killer.
Jealous Mark Lepine caused Teresa Clarke's death by driving at 125mph in a rage because he saw her dancing with another man in a nightclub. Lepine, 29, lost control of his powerful Ford Sierra 4x4 and it ploughed into a lamppost, killing the 26-year-old mother-of-three.
Despite causing their daughter's death following the row at Gateshead's Baja Beach Club, Teresa's parents have forgiven him. Lepine, of Wallsend, Tyne and Wear, was jailed for two-and-a-half years by Judge Richard Lowden at Durham Crown Court.
Judge Lowden said he had a duty to the public to jail Lepine and ban him from driving for four years.
But he said he was reducing the sentence because of the wishes of Mr and Mrs Clarke.
As the Clarkes try to put the tragedy behind them, they hit out at the sentence and said the judge had got it wrong.
Mrs Clarke, 44, of Dudley, North Tyneside, said: "The judge should have just banned him from driving for life.
"He has a child of his own, Jamie, who will now be without a dad. The fact that he has been sent to jail will not bring Teresa back."
The smash killed Teresa, of Dudley, and left her sister Gail, 22, Lepine, and pal Stephen Lucas with severe injuries. Lepine was lucky to be alive after suffering a blood clot to the brain and was in a coma for more than two weeks.
He was found guilty after a trial at Newcastle Crown Court of causing Teresa's death by dangerous driving.
Lepine had denied the charge and said he had no memory of the crash.
Mr and Mrs Clarke gained parental rights after Teresa's death for Jade, two, Jessica, four and David, eight.
