A centre is holding an open day for people interested in becoming volunteers.
The Government-funded Millennium Volunteers scheme is open to people aged between 16 and 24 who are prepared to carry out 200 hours of work.
The Volunteer Centre in Chester-le-Street is looking for people to take part in the scheme and is holding an open day on Friday, September 14, at its premises in Clarence Terrace.
The day will run from 10am to 2.30pm and is open to potential volunteers, organisations who would like to recruit volunteers and also any businesses which can offer placements.
