YOUNG people have been appointed Community Champions as part of a regeneration scheme.
Changemakers North-East, an independent charity, has teamed up with the Government Office North-East to offer youngsters the chance to make a difference in their communities. They will be supported throughout the year by trained Changemakers mentors, who will help them develop their ideas on creating positive changes.
Lucy Beasley, 19, Paula Blackburn, 17, and Matthew Peggs, 20, of Middlesbrough, and 16-year-olds Jenny Kelly and Alan Strickland, of Darlington, joined the scheme to help motivate other young people. Hands-on training has already been provided by Lucy Bird, marketing manager of Music Centre Gateshead, Dennis Oliver, of the Scarman Trust, and Susan Spoors, of the educational mentoring scheme, Connexions.
Further assistance is being given by professionals from the worlds of law, accountancy, entertainment, business and management.
