A YOUNG woman was in hospital with serious burns last night after she was attacked.
Emergency services found the woman sitting, bizarrely, in an armchair near a zebra crossing in Foxwood Lane, York, at about 3.40am yesterday.
She had been assaulted and was suffering from third-degree burns, a North Yorkshire Police spokesman said.
Officers were carrying out house-to-house inquiries in the area yesterday in an effort to establish how the woman, who is in her twenties, came to be in the street and receive her injuries.
She was taken to York District Hospital, where her condition was not thought to be life-threatening. Detectives have so far been unable to interview her.
Witnesses or anyone with information should contact York police on (01904) 631321.
