FOUR vintage railway posters advertising the delights of York are expected to fetch £2,800 when they go under the hammer in London next week.
The most valuable of the four posters by artist Fred Taylor was produced for the London and North Eastern Railway in 1935.
It shows the city's dignitaries marching out of York Minster and measures 50in by 40in. It is expected to fetch up to £800 when it is auctioned at Christie's on September 12.
The others feature an interior view of the Minster, Monk Bar and the Treasurer's House.
Nicolette White, poster specialist at Christie's, said that the railway companies employed the finest artists of the time to design the posters for them, which tended to be of the places where British people spent their breaks before the advent of the package holiday.
