VISITORS can enjoy a behind-the-scenes look at some of the most historic buildings in Darlington this weekend.
Darlington Borough Council has joined forces with the civic trust to organise the heritage open days.
Seventeen properties in the area will open their doors to the public, free of charge, from today until Monday.
The buildings include the town clock tower, Grange Road Baptist church, Darlington crematorium and Walworth Castle.
Two guided walk tours have also been organised as part of the weekend. One will take visitors around Darlington town centre to see the historic buildings, while the other more light-hearted walkabout will take in the historic pubs of the town.
Organisers have also arranged two heritage bus tours and an historic churches bus tour as part of the event.
The tours and entrance to all the properties are free, in a bid to encourage more people to visit the places of interest. However, some of the properties can only be visited as part of timed guided tours.
The details of the tours are available from the tourist information office on 01325 388666, or e-mail ticdarlington.gov.uk.
A detailed leaflet of all the properties involved in the open days is also available.
