The League started the new season with a packed programme of 21 games in which only two teams emerged with maximum points.
Spennithorne head the table on goal difference after three successive victories. On Monday evening they won 4-1 at newcomers Kirkby Malzeard with goals from Paul Orton (2), Carl Orton and Stuart Hall, Matt Uffindall replying for the home side. On Wednesday they recorded a 10-0 victory at Redmire with hat-tricks from Carl Fowler and Paul Orton and other goals from Martin Allinson (2), Tony Gaze and John Acton. Allinson also missed a penalty. On Saturday, Spennithorne won 3-1 at home against Swale Travaux, Carl Fowler (2), and John Acton on target, John Potter replying for the visitors.
Richmond Buck made a good start to the season with three wins, opening on Monday 2-1 at home over Swale Travaux. James Conway and Gavin Boulton gave them a 2-0 interval lead and they held on to take the points despite a second half goal by Mike Edwards.
On Wednesday Buck visited Richmond Mavericks and won 3-2 with goals from Anthony McGeogh (2), and Tony Conway. Mavericks replied with a Darren Matthews penalty and an own goal by Mike Sartini. On Saturday Buck had their biggest win of the week with a 6-2 home victory over Askrigg. Martin Peacock hit a hat trick and Adam Emson (2) and Anthony McGeogh scored the others.
Hawes United set off the week with a 4-1 win at Askrigg with goals from Nick Prince, James Bell, Trevor Blades and Stuart Dinsdale, but on Wednesday were held to a goalless draw at home by Carperby. On Saturday they hit the highest score of the season so far in a 12-1 win at Hipswell with Nick Prince netting a double hat-trick. Wayne Winspear and Stuart Dinsdale both scored twice with David Whaley and Chris Lambert making up double figures. Stuart Knight scored for Hipswell.
Middleham Town were unbeaten in their three games, starting with a 2-2 home draw with Carperby on Monday. James Wilkinson and John Stubbs scored for the home side and Nick Oliver and Mark Percival levelled for the visitors. On Wednesday Middleham won 3-1 at home to Kirkby Malzeard, Keith Webster (2) and Steve Rabjohn scoring their goals, Matt Huffindall netting for the visitors, and on Saturday they won 3-0 at Hawes B, Glynn Barnard (2) and James Wilkinson on target.
Leyburn United set off well with a 7-2 victory at Hipswell on Monday with a hat trick from Carl Handley and other goals by Paul Read, Dave Harmsworth, Jo Lytollis and Andy Reaks. Stuart Knight and Craig Pickering (pen) replied for the home side.

Hambleton Ales Combination League
After the enforced break caused by the foot-and-mouth epidemic the Combination started the new season on Sunday.
In Division One away teams were in the ascendancy with Royal Oak, Osmotherley Rangers and Rountons all taking maximum points against Three Coopers Bedale, North Yorks Unison and Robert Thompsons respectively. Northallerton Police were held to a goalless draw in their home encounter with Kneeton Park and Thirsk Albion were the only side to win when they came out on top 5-4 in a high-scoring game with Great Ayton Hibs.
In Division Two Brompton on Swale had a convincing 8-0 home win over Robert Thompson Reserves and Catterick Village started well with a 3-2 home victory over Appleton Wiske. Kildale were 2-0 victors at Northallerton Elders and Gilling West 3-1 winners at Oak Leaf. Topcliffe and Skipton BS drew 4-4 and Durham Ox and Blue Star also shared the honours in a 1-1 draw.
In Division Three Ingleby Greenhow hit the highest score of the day in a 13-0 eclipse of Thirsk Town away. Marne Dragons netted 11 at home against Elders SC and Cowtons won 9-0 in their away game at West Tanfield. Nags Head United had a useful 5-1 start at home against Knayton and Northallerton WMC took the points with the only goal of their home game with Sinderby. Vale of York and Streetlam Farmers shared the points in a 2-2 draw. Hutton Rudby have withdrawn from the league and their scheduled fixture with County Arms was cancelled.

Durham Alliance
Durham Victoria Bridge kept their unbeaten run going with a 2-2 draw at home to Whitehill FC. Darren Burnham scored for Durham in 30 minutes before John Embleton equalised. Whitehill took the lead with a goal from John Kelly in 50 minutes but Mark Gardiner completed the scoring with a header from a corner kick ten minutes from time.
Washington Westwood thrashed Springwell Village 8-0. Dean Helens (3), Chris Lindstedt (2), Dave Knight, Stephen Black and Michael Thompson all scored.
Herrington CW beat Chester's at home 8-1. Paul Taylor was in real form scoring five of the goals, this after scoring five in a midweek match against New Birtley and Hilda Park. Halister Hiles (2) and Michael Pattison also scored.
Simonside SC won 3-0 at home to Birtley St Josephs. In the first minute David Whelan put them 1-0 in front, Daniel Harbinson made it 2-0 and Michael Ord notched in the 83rd minute.
BHD Windows had a 3-0 comfortable win at home to Seaham Mallard.
Hartlepool Boys Welfare were rampant in a 9-0 win against Ebchester FC. Goals came courtesy of Chris Birkbeck (3), Dave Smith (2), Scott Cartwright (2), Mark Nicholson and Steve Cooper.
Seaham The Duke away to New Birtley at Hilda Park won 6-3. Birtley were 1-0 up in the first half until The Duke made it 1-1 at half time. After the break, The Duke outplayed the Birtley team, six players scoring, The Duke goals were scored by Mick Appleby, Colin Wright, Ross Tindle, Mick Piccon, David Swan and Kevin Taylor. New Birtley replied with goals from Steven Green (2) and Gavin Bisset
Belford House are the only team left with a 100 per cent record after winning 4-1 away to Wylam Vale Celtic.
Hathaway and Cope Stokesley League
Middlesbrough Post Office followed up their 5-1 win over Stokesley in midweek with a 5-4 success away to Teesside Athletic despite trailing to early goals from Chris Ellis and Kirk Forsyth.
Midway through the first half, Post Office started their comeback when Lee Thompson made no mistake from the penalty spot only for Forsyth to restore Teesside Athletic's two goal advantage minutes later.
Five minutes before the interval, Thompson tapped in from close range after good work from Ashley Mcgregor and Post Office were back on level terms a minute after the restart when John Leach headed home.
Thompson completed his hat-trick on the hour to put Post Office ahead for the first time in the game and it was Thompson who hit number five going through one on one with the keeper.
Chris Ellis reduced the deficit for Athletic giving the Post Office a nervous last five minutes but a determined rearguard held firm to the closing whistle.
Dormans Athletic are the only side with full points from their two games following their 2-1 win over B & H Kings Head.
They had to come from behind after Kings Head man of the match Paul Round latched on to a well directed flick on from Steve Smith before slotting the ball home.
Dormans equalised on the half hour and struck what turned out to be the winner midway through the second half.
The final scoreline could well have been very different however had Kings Head not had a penalty appeal turned down and Dormans missing a penalty with ten minutes remaining.
New boys Bulls Head had their hopes of a first success raised when Simon Nelson showed good control before putting his side ahead at home to Ennis Square with 20 minutes gone.
Two goals in quick succession from Ennis shortly before half time however had them chasing the game and Ennis wrapped up the points eventually winning the game 4-1.
Lingdale and the The Grenadier took a share of the points in the first goalless draw of the season while Onyx hit six without reply at home to Stokesley.
Two goals apiece from Ricky Kirby and John Simon did most of the damage while Ian Mills and Andrew Steel chipped in with a goal each.
Redcar Coke took a two goal lead in their game at home to the Woodmans Arms but a spirited comeback from the visitors left both sides sharing the spoils in a 2-2 draw.
Graham Watson and Paul Donaghie were on the mark for the Coke Ovens while John Mothersill and Daniel O Riordan found the back of the net for the Woodmans Arms.
