Billingham Synthonia came from behind at Thornaby to go top of the League on Tuesday night.

Synners were in the lead after 26 minuets through a Glen Corkain penalty for a handball offence, but three minutes later Kevin Newall burst through and equalised.

David Turner put Thornaby into the lead from another penalty after 35 minutes, but Synners stormed back in the second half.

Andy Ripley was left unmarked to equalise just after the break, and on 56 minutes Chris Fawcett scored from a rebound. Centre half Tommy Marram made sure of the points near the end.

Synners are pursued by Whitley Bay, who defeated Morpeth 3-0 at Hillheads.

They took the lead after 37 minutes when David Chivers scored from a pass by Gary Middleton, but they had to wait until the 71st minute to extend their lead when Robbie Livermore and Ian Chandler combined to give Steve Cuggy the chance to score from a few yards.

Cuggy got the third within a minute, with a diving header from another Livermore cross.

Consett's unbeaten record was ended in a 2-1 home defeat by Tow Law. Tow Law took the lead with a Kraig Wilkinson shot from the edge of the area after 59 minutes, but Consett levelled with a 10 yard effort from Chris Hodgson. But Tow Law sub Robbie Trainor scored the winner with just four minutes left.

Washington picked up a point at Chester-le-Street, thanks to a last minute goal from Steve Burns, after Chester had taken the lead with an own goal after 39 minutes.

Guisborough won their first league game of the season, beating Seaham Red Star 3-2, but they were behind at half-time.

Jamie Clarke, new signing Andy Swalwell and Darren Mowbray eight minutes from time got the goals.

In the second division, joint leaders Washington Nissan lost 2-1 at home to Horden, for whom Mick Devine scored twice, Jason Melling replying.

Penrith took over at the top in their own right, winning 4-1 at Norton.

Easington beat Alnwick 3-1.

Steve Salvin set up Ian Matthews to score with a shot into the top corner, and on the hour Matthews added a second with a low shot.

James Lang pulled one back for Alnwick, before Tony Hansen ran through for the third Esh Winning beat Willington for the third time this season, beating them 2-0 in the league.

Ian Davison put them into a 15th minute lead, and Tony Halliday sealed the points with three minuets left.

Northallerton came back from 3-1 down to draw 3-3 at Prudhoe.

Micky Pugh put Northallerton head, but three goals in nine minutes from Marc Nash, Andy Armstrong and Mattie Foreman appeared to put Prudhoe in control.

But Town hit back in the second half. Stephen Boyle levelled after 73 minutes, and Andy Armstrong suffered the unwanted distinction of scoring in both ends when he put through his own goal for the equaliser with three minutes left.

Surprise packages Eppleton won 3-0 at Hebburn.

They took the lead after 25 minutes with a powerful shot by Ray Proctor from the edge of the box, and in the second half player-manager Neil Hixon and John James were on target.

Evenwood lost 4-1 at home to South Shields. Ian McLean (eight minutes) and Andy Howarth (54) put Shields 2-0 in the lead, and an 89th minute goal from Andrew Patterson appeared to give Evenwood hope. But Shields scored twice in stoppage time through Chris Robson and Steve Johnson.

Shotton lost 1-0 at home to Kennek Ryhope, David Crosby scoring the goal with just five minutes remaining.
