POLICE carried out road checks on Teesside yesterday in a bid to shed more light on the death of Edward Anderson.
The 54-year-old's body was found lying at the side of the A172, near Poole roundabout, Nunthorpe, a week ago.
Drivers were stopped and questioned in the hope they may be able to help build a picture of his movements.
Mr Anderson, of Captain Cook's Way, Great Ayton, was the victim of a hit-and-run driver.
A passing motorist discovered Mr Anderson's body lying at the roadside in the early hours of August 31. He had severe head injuries.
Witnesses remembered seeing him walking along Stokesley Road from the bus stop outside the Southern Cross pub.
Police are keen to talk to taxi drivers who took passengers from the centre of Middlesbrough to the Stokesley- Great Ayton area on the night Mr Anderson died.
Acting Detective Inspector Andy Greenwood said: "We are anxious to speak to any taxi driver who picked up passengers from Middlesbrough to those areas. They may hold vital information which will enable us to trace the movements of people using the road that evening.''
Detectives are interested to hear from taxi drivers who drove along the road between 11.30pm on the Thursday to between 1am and 2am on Friday, August 31.
Police have managed to trace all the vehicles that stopped after the body was found, and are making checks of garages in the area which recently carried out damage repairs.
Two cars have already been forensically examined.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Cleveland Police on (01642) 301543.
