There was some outstanding performances in the Woodlands North-East Junior Championships Final sponsored by York based Tek Neek UK Distributors for Italian Tackle Giants Trabucco, writes JEFF HERBERT.
All the youngsters had successfully come through tense qualifying heats for a place in the grand showdown on Kestrel Lake.
The two age group matches 7-11 years and 12-15 years saw local talent hold off strong opposition from as far afield as Doncaster, Leeds and Wakefield.
The older final resulted in a Yarm AA 1 + 2 as 14-year-olds Shaun Little and Chris Routledge finished triumphant. Shaun drew peg 20 towards the corner and went all out for carp. Fishing the pole at eight metres with pellet on the hook mirrors to 4.0.0 made for a great winning haul of 21.6.0 during this four hour event.
Meanwhile Chris on peg 23 alternated between five and eight metres again on pellet netting a smaller stamp of carp up to 3.8.0 for 18.14.0 from Leeds rod Michael Garbutt not far behind on 18.11.0.
Then in the Under-11s final there was a battle on adjoining pegs four and five near the cafe with a very impressive 7.0.0 mirror carp swaying the verdict towards Scorton's Chris Gill. On peg five the nine-year-old chased the carp throughout with a big lump of paste. The tactic worked a treat as several more joined the heavyweight for a winning 15.4.0 at the scales.
In contrast Middlesbrough's ten-year-old Andrew Herbert located skimmer bream taking seven along with ide tench and a lone carp on worm and meat for 11.13.0 followed by Ricky Matthews (Leeds) 11.6.0.
