HUNDREDS of people packed into a service held at Durham Cathedral to commemorate the Battle of Britain yesterday.
In a moving sermon, Canon David Whittington painted a vivid picture of The Few "facing hell and horror to ensure the glory and beauty for the many". The event, staged by the Durham region of the Royal Air Forces Association, began with a procession of standards, airmen from RAF Leeming, North Yorkshire, and Air Training Corps Cadets from the Palace Green to the cathedral. A march past was held following the service, as well as the laying of wreathes at the RAF Memorial at the cathedral's North Door.
