Most people, 86 per cent, wanted less traffic on Newgate, and there was also support for tree planting and seating proposals.
But a third were against incorporating public art into the improvements, with only 43 expressing support.
Building improvement grants found favour with all 29 people who made comments. Almost all said they preferred traditional shop styles and 86 per cent wanted tighter restrictions on the design of shop signs.
Work on the Newgate Street Enhancement scheme could start in February and be completed by July next year.
