CLOSED-CIRCUIT TV cameras are to be installed on all buses run by North-East transport group Go-Ahead, in a move to protect passengers and drivers.
The Newcastle company is one of the biggest bus operators in the country, with services in London, Brighton Oxford, and the North-East.
It also runs a train service and a small airline.
The firm had already decided to put cameras in its new buses, but has now chosen to extend the equipment to all vehicles after it proved to reduce trouble on the buses.
As well as protecting passengers and drivers, the video footage will be used to deter bogus compensation claims from bus users and other people on the road.
The cost of installing the cameras on the 2,500 buses nationwide is estimated to be about £7.5m.
