A HOLIDAY company are investigating after a woman claimed her daughter's life was put in danger by a dirty hotel room.

Jean Bailey of Lowson Street, Darlington went on holiday earlier this year to the Isle of Wight with her seven-year-old daughter Fay.

Mrs Bailey and her daughter booked with National Holidays to stay in the Belgrave Hotel in Sandown.

But Mrs Bailey claimed when they arrived at the hotel it was dirty and uninhabitable. Mrs Bailey said: "It was filthy and the rooms were absolutely disgusting."

"We couldn't even use the shower because it was so dirty and the carpet was so dirty you couldn't even see it."

"The windows were broken and everywhere was covered in filth and grime." Mrs Bailey was concerned about the dirt because Fay has a hole in her heart and any infection could kill her.

She said: "My daughter has a whole in the heart and her room must be spotless because if she gets any dirt in her bloodstream it could be fatal."

On the first night the mother and daughter slept in the bus driver's room after they were told the hotel was full and they could not be moved.

Mrs Bailey said: "My daughter wouldn't stop crying and wouldn't eat anything - if that was the state of the rooms what on Earth were the kitchens like." The following day the bus driver took them another hotel and Mrs Bailey complained to National Holidays but she claims they have been unwilling to offer her an explanation.

She said: "They said they couldn't do anything until the hotel had got back to them but I booked the holiday with them and not the hotel.

"I complained that they were slow in getting back to us and they said it was because too many people were complaining."

A spokeswoman for National Holidays said the managing director had received Mrs Bailey's complaints but she said she could not comment further until an investigation had been completed.
