A HARD-working consumer watchdog has received a national award.
Redcar and Cleveland Trading Standards department dealt with more than 1,800 consumer complaints last year, more than 3,000 general inquiries and helped win financial redress totalling more than £70,000.
Staff also offered debt management advice, running outreach surgeries in Guisborough, Loftus, Skelton and South Bank, dealing with 179 new advice clients with debts totalling £1.5m.
The work of the department's consumer and money advice service is being recognised in the presentation of a Legal Services Quality Mark.
Principal Trading Standards Officer Howard Turton said: "The award is recognition that our small staff may be justifiably proud of their work and the professional, high quality service provided to those in the borough who are most in need.
