A LADIES' choir is singing with joy thanks to a £500 donation from Newcastle Building Society.
St Cuthbert's Ladies Choir provides free concerts to various organisations in and around Sunderland, bringing live music to people who may not normally have access to it.
The choir was established in 1978 by the then vicar of St Cuthberts Church in Redhouse, Sunderland, with the aim of bringing together ladies from the congregation who wanted to entertain others.
The choir has 14 members, all of whom are volunteers, with many having been members since the outset.
Roy Horabin, the choir's musical director, said: "The donation from Newcastle Building Society has been an enormous help to us because, previously, we could only perform at venues that had an instrument for us to use.
"Now we are free to play wherever we are needed, bringing music and happiness to even more people in the Sunderland area.
