A POLICEMAN is keeping his reasons for entering the Great North Run close to his chest.
The hopes of 51 primary schools will be riding on PC Dave Peacock running well.
His wife, Carol, is patiently sewing all the school badges on to the 44-year-old's running vest, after they promised to sponsor the schools liaison officer's bid to raise funds for the haematology unit at Middlesbrough General Hospital.
To date, his vest sports 38 badges and the rest are still arriving by post.
"Part of it is the challenge, but it is also the chance to raise money for a worthwhile cause that is close to my heart," said PC Peacock, who is running with Skelton bricklayer Kevin Wood.
"A long time ago I knew someone who died from leukaemia.
"Our run will help buy some valuable equipment for the centre," he said
