PLANS to install traffic calming measures on a business estate have been put on hold after an outcry from firms.
The building of two roundabouts at junctions in Pasture Lane, Malton, was postponed after contractors started work at the end of last week.
The work is part of a traffic calming scheme, which includes a 20mph limit and speed bumps in front of two nearby schools.
But businesses on the Showfield Estate say they were not properly consulted when the plans were first announced.
A spokesman for one firm described the changes as crazy and said: "You would have trouble getting a car and trailer around, let alone an articulated lorry. They are putting in these roundabouts and we just want to know why."
North Yorkshire County Council engineer Stewart Hurst said: "Although there was extensive consultation about the scheme, including a public exhibition, these two elements will be postponed for the time being.
"This should give the county council's Ryedale area committee an opportunity to consider a further report, as well as the comments from the Showfield Lane companies.
