Soccer star
A YOUNG girl from a Stockton soccer team was the star of the show in a national competition last month.
Abbey Lyle, right, the only girl taking part in the LEGO Futebol de Salao national championships in Birmingham, scored both goals in a 2-1 win after being selected to play in an All Stars final.
She earned her place after a star performance for the Stockton on Tees Brazilian Soccer School team, which also included Joseph Hilton, Alex McKee, Daniel Fowler, Martin Chambers, Joshua Saint and Andrew Blackburn.
The youngsters were chosen from more than 200 teams across the country to join nine other teams in the annual tournament, playing in front of former England star John Barnes and Leicester City manager Peter Taylor.
Star fencers
MEMBERS of Great Britain's Olympic and World Championship teams will be among 48 fencers gathering for a special invitational challenge tournament at the Royal Armouries, Leeds later this month.
The RoundTable Royal Armouries Challenge takes place on Saturday, September 22 and visitors to the museum will have free entry to the competition.
Fencing starts at 9.30, with the final scheduled for 4pm.
