THREE men appeared in court yesterday accused of involvement in an alleged hit-and-run incident.
Trevor Kellett, 22, Steve Johnson, 42, and 18-year-old Gareth Walton were arrested by police investigating the incident in which a man was injured when he was struck by a car while sitting in a field near Biddick Woods, at Shiney Row, Wearside, last Saturday.
Paul Rumney, 42, from Shiney Row, is "critical but stable" in Sunderland Royal Hospital.
Mr Kellett, of Purfield Row, Shiney Row, is accused of causing grievous bodily harm, dangerous driving and driving with no insurance.
Mr Johnson, of Blossom Grove, Shiney Row, is facing allegations of obstructing police, driving other than in accordance with his licence, and without insurance.
Mr Walton, of Houghtonside, Houghton-le-Spring, is accused of aiding and abetting dangerous driving, driving other than in accordance with his licence and without insurance.
They appeared before Houghton-le-Spring magistrates yesterday, when the case was adjourned to October 11. All three were granted bail.
