YOUNGSTERS from Brompton-on-Swale are taking to the road this weekend in their campaign to raise cash for a skate park.
Income from a stall at the village fete is already in the kitty, which stands at about £100.
The initiative has also won the support of the rest of the community, which has helped arranged a fundraising day this weekend.
Richmondshire district councillor Jim Fryer, and Barclays Bank manager Sandra Atkinson, will join the youngsters on a sponsored walk to Kiplin Hall and back on Sunday.
Afterwards, villagers are invited to a barbecue at the King William IV pub.
As part of the programme of events, there will be a grand raffle, with businessman Arthur Caygill offering a BMX bike as the top prize.
It is hoped the day will take the fund closer to a target of £3,000.
More details about the events are available from the village post office, which has helped set up a bank account for the appeal and can deal with inquiries from anyone who would like to contribute or take part in the sponsored walk.
