Worthington CIU Team Knock-out Cup - Peter Davison, the team captain, became the hero of Fishburn when he potted the final black to give his side a one point home win over League Champions elect, Wheatley Hill A in the quarter final of the Team Knock-out Cup.

Wheatley Hill received 20 points start and were able to extend this to 43 after wins by Dennis Clish and Alan Hall. However Fishburn responded with good wins from John Griffin and John Carter to move into a 60 point lead. In the final frame the Hill's Ronnie Peacock produced a magnificent fighting display, which closed the gap against Peter Davison to just six points with only the black ball left on the table. The visitors' elation ended when Davison potted the black.

The likely runners-up in the First Division, Old Shildon travelled to Spennymoor A and gave away 68 point start. Paul Biddle and Ronnie Bateman lifted the Moors lead to one hundred and 20 after winning the first two frames. Charlie Blake and Frank Nicholson closed the gap to 43 when they won the next two frames but Alan Clark clinched the home victory with a win in the final frame.

Third Division, Hunwick caused a major upset when they ended the hopes of the visiting First Division, Willington. The home side took 51 point start but this was cut to 24 after Arthur Goldsborough and Stan Bennett won the first two frames. However from that point the home side took over with wins from Trevor Lomax, Des Mason and Barry Fleming taking them to a comfortable victory.

Second Division, Langley Park entertained Third Division, Spennymoor B and gave away an 18 point start. However the Park were in command from the start and steadily increased their lead with wins from Robert Roche, Kevin Keers, Ray Coates, Paul Nord with a 31 break and Stephen Coates.

Second Division leaders, Ferryhill entertained Newhouse A in the quarter final, which was played off level. The visitors got away to a great start when they had frame wins from Steve Mountain, Kevin Allison and John Maddox to take them into a seventy-nine points lead. Ian Roddam then really lifted his game to make a big win and cut the gap to just seventeen points. However, Newhouse recovered in the final frame when Ian Dinsdale edged through to win and take Newhouse into the semi-finals by twenty-one points.

Crook Belle Vue took 29 point start on their visit to Meadowfield but slipped back in the first two frames when Ian Hodgson and Stephen Hughes were able to overtake the visitors' start to move into a seventeen points lead. However the Belle Vue came back strongly with wins from Norman Slack and John Warriner, which took them into a forty-nine points. With this advantage in the last frame Ken Rider had no problem in clinching victory for Crook Belle Vue.

Crowtrees received 55 point start from the visiting Second Division side from Brandon. This lead was reduced to 20 after John Hall took the first frame for Brandon. Sean Johnston steadied the home ship with a five points win and Sonny Hann followed with a six points success. However in the final two frames there were big wins for both Kevin Sample and Brian Graham to take Brandon through to victory.

Tow Law, who are almost at the foot of the Third Division, received a 14 point start from the visiting Durham City, who are at the bottom of the Second Division. Doug Watson gave the Lawyers a great start when he extended the home lead to 41 points but then Brian Dunn and Gary Ward won heir frames to take the visitors into a 16 points lead. Charlie Donaghy then killed off the match when he won by 82 points. John Davies made a valiant effort in the final frame but after taking three blacks had to retire on the yellow against Bill McCluskey.
