For the umpteenth season in succession, the club commenced proceedings with a disappointing set of results, a minority of teams tasting victory at the first attempt but the majority hoping for better things to come.

Both teams competing at 11-a-side level for the first time had tremendous wins; the Under-11 Colts were at home to Greatham in the Fourth Division and came out 1-0 winners with a good all-round performance. Oliver Webster got the only goal and goalkeeper Sam Jones was man of the match.

The Under-11s are attempting to improve on their fourth place finish in the First Division last season and the step up to 11-a-side level so far appears to be no problem. They were at home to Norton and Stockton Ancients and comprehensively won 5-1. Man of the match James Stokell opened his account with two goals, Daniel Groves and Ross Kelly got one each and the Allstars' scoring was completed by an own goal.

After last season's promotion from the Third Division, the Under-12s' new surroundings posed few problems as they won 1-0 at Newton Aycliffe SC. In a hard-fought game, Allstars came out on top via a debut goal from Lewis Harrison just after half-time. Man of the match was team captain Sean Taylor.

The Under-13s, made up from last season's Under-12s and Under-12 Colts, travelled to Tennis World and eventually came out on top 3-0. They defended well at the start and reached half-time with a 0-0 scoreline. Second-half pressure eventually brought its rewards with a goal from a corner by man of the match Brendan Lally, a successful volley from Nicky Fox and a solo effort from Kyle Swankie.

The Under-15s drew 1-1 at home to Norton Grange Boys in a First Division game, with Aaron Dinsdale giving Allstars the lead with a 25-yard strike. However, the away side came back with an equaliser three minutes from time. In a battling team performance, Ian Mackenzie was named man of the match.

The Under-14 Colts lost 6-3 at home to Hartlepool Athletic. In an end-to-end game, The Colts produced a display which was encouraging for the season ahead but ran out of steam and conceded two late goals. After two promotions in the previous two seasons, a much-changed Under-17s team were at home to AWS Catterick and lost 3-0 in a game where their disjointed display was not helped by a number of key injuries and some crucial defensive lapses. Man of the match was Richard Dalton.

At seven-a-side level in the Teesside Alliance, the Under-10s were at home to Hartlepool St Francis in the First Division and in an entertaining game, eventually lost 3-1 after leading 1-0 at half-time via a goal from Lee Gibbon. Spraire Lads

The Under-10 A team, playing their first game in the Teesside Junior Alliance, enjoyed an excellent game against Hartlepool Crest. In a hard-fought contest man of the match Craig Swainston got Spraire's goal however, despite dominating for long periods, Spraire had to settle for a 1-1 draw.

The C team, playing the same opponents, went down 3-0 despite an excellent performance where Chris Lipton was outstanding. The B team at this age group played local team Skerne Park Youth in a good performance Spraire grabbed the points with goals from Christopher Gaffney and Liam Serginson and man of the match went to Richie Hinde.

In their first 11-a-side game, the Under-11s visited Nunthorpe Youth Club and in a competitive game Spraire started well. Coglan worked well with Hastie who crossed the ball to Ward who scored the opening goal. Spraire then mounted sustained attacks on the Nunthorpe goal but good defensive work by both teams left the keepers with little to do. The one time Nunthorpe looked like equalising Davidson was on the line to block for Spraire. The start of the second half saw both teams playing some excellent football and an excellent ball by Yoxcell split the Spraire defence for Croft to bag the equaliser for Nunthorpe. In the last ten minutes Spraire laid siege to the Nunthorpe goal but good defending kept them at bay to leave a 1-1 scoreline. Man of the match went to Scott Hastie.

At Under-13 Spraire went to Bishop Auckland and despite two goals from Christopher Grainger, Spraire lost 4-2. Everyone connected with Spraire Lads would like to wish all the best to Dale Elgie who was knocked down on Saturday.

Spraire at Under-14 were in action against themselves in the derby the B team played the Dynamo's. The victory went to the B team, 12-2 but credit must go to both teams for a sporting contest. Despite holding Marton to 1-0 at half time, the A team eventually lost 7-0.

At Under-15 last year's First Division champions Spraire played newly promoted Kader. As usual, the promoted side where fired-up for the encounter with excellent keeping by James and superb finishing by Kelland ensured Spraire's 4-1 victory with Kelland grabbing all four goals.

The Under-16s are back in the first division and in a great game against Nunthorpe, despite the good football, neither could find a way through leaving the score at 0-0. In a good team performance man of the match went to Palmer.

At Under-17, Spraire visited newly promoted Hardwick. Spraire took an early lead when Stephenson scored from a Cole cross. Hardwick battled hard to get back on level terms before Stephenson put Spraire ahead again. For long periods in the second half Spraire had to defend well and as a unit they coped admirably with Ralph excelling. Just as things were getting tense, Stephenson threaded a ball through to Blekharn who calmly slotted the ball home to give Spraire a 3-1 victory.
