Roseberry Group North-East Durham League - The championship will not be decided until tomorrow's final games since both East Rainton and Wearmouth won at the weekend.

East Rainton go into their last game eight points in front of Wearmouth and they enjoyed a six wickets victory visiting Littletown who were all out for 85 which included 30 by opening batsman Nixon.

Roy Richardson was the bowler who did nearly all the damage and he returned the outstanding figures of seven for 25.

After losing the early wicket of Neil Matthews, East Rainton were well served by Gordon Steel (32) and Colin Henderosn (31) who produced a match winning partnership for the second wicket.

Wearmouth had 54 runs to spare at Washington. Batting first Wearmouth were all out for 148 and most of the runs came from Wright (33), Colin Davison with 33 and Peter Stronach who added 27 while for Washington Plender claimed five wickets for 59 runs.

Responding Washington never got to grips with their task and despite 26 from Garrod batting at number three, they were all out for 94 as Stronach completed a good day capturing four wickets for 32 runs and Hale took five for 38.

North Bitchburn are relegated following their six wickets defeat at home Coxhoe. North Bitchburn, who fielded only eight men, were all out in 18 overs for just 68 as Paul Newman claimed five wickets for 31 runs in 9.3 overs.

Trevor Southern and Peter Maddison eased Coxhoe to a six wicket win despite Ian Tennick taking three for 30 in 13 overs for North Bitchburn.

Plawsworth had two wickets in hand of Benwell Hill at their picturesque ground. The visitors managed 95 as Corrigan took three for seven and Brooks three for 19 before Mike Browbank led Plawsworth to victory opening the innings and scoring 30. Whitfield, who went in at number three, carried his bat for a valuable 23 as success was achieved for the loss of eight wickets, six of them to Logan for 50 runs.

After totalling 140 for seven Sunderland Hospitals bowled out Simonside for 103 and once again Gary Shaw was prominent. Recently he took all ten wickets and followed up that performance by claiming five so on Saturday he took his total from three matches to 19 with figures of four for 36. John Surtees was also in form with the ball for Hospitals and his four wickets cost just 30 runs.

Batting first Hospitals ended on 140 for seven and most of the runs came from opening batsman Bennett with 51 while Gary Shaw also struck form with the bat scoring 35. Ross, with four for 48 and Haynes, who returned three for 28, were prominent in the Simonside attack.

Belford House made only 124 for eight at Medomsley for whom Bobby Orton claimed five for 58 and Eric Vickers two for 12. Clinton top scored with 32 for Belford House who went down by five wickets when Hurst carried his bat for 56 in the Medomsley innings, which produced a total of 128 for five. Three of the wickets were taken by Francis for 37 runs.

Friarside Cup Final

Hetton Lyons easily defeated Whickham when the sides met at Lintz in the final of the competition.

Required to score 132, Whickham were restricted to 72 for four of which John Paul Campbell top scored with 28 not out and Paul Gray 23.

Nathan Wilson, who has appeared in Hetton Lyons first team in recent weeks, captured three wickets for only 13 runs.

When they made first use of the wickets Hetton Lyons ended with the formidable total of 131 for seven. Wilson was in excellent form with the bat and ended undefeated on 64 and Andrew Loscombe scored 21 while for Whickham Adam Ainley produced the best figures of two for 39 from four overs.

Gavin Pattison Cup Final

Murton just had the edge over Chester-le-Street when the sides met at Hetton Lyons in the final the Gavin Pattison Trophy.

When they batted first Murton posted 147 for four from their 30 overs with Kris Howe top scoring with 69 which included ten boundaries. Callum Milne added 42 with two fours and for Chester-le-Street Liam Simpson was the most productive bowler claiming two of the four wickets to fall for four runs.

Despite an undefeated 48 by Bates the Cestrians managed 134 for eight from their 30 overs and Murton won by 13 runs.

Elliott Hughes captured three wickets for 29 runs and Howe returned two for 23 in the Murton attack.

Eurocell Marshall-Tufflex Darlington and District League

Not a single game went ahead in Division A and just two took place in Division B.

Following the outbreak of foot-and-mouth before the start of the season the programme has been ravaged and it could well be that there will need to be a reorganisation of the league for next season.

At the weekend there was no play either in Division C or D.

In their Division B match Haughton visited Trimdon CCA and won by nine wickets after bowling out the home side for 31 in 21.4 overs.

Colin Wilkinson claimed four wickets for 14 runs in 10.4 overs and Peter Gill took three for 11 from eight overs before Haughton secured the necessary runs losing one wicket in six overs.

Dales managed to stage their match with Lands and following an entertaining game it was Dales who won by seven wickets.

When they batted first Lands ended with 139 all out from 35 overs and most of the runs came from Neil Smith batting at number four.

He had two sixes and five boundaries in 48 and opening batsman Elstob contributed 24 before Robert Little, who went in last, added 30 with five boundaries before he was run out.

David Hutchinson had a good day with the ball for Dales capturing four wickets for 56 runs and Jonathan Simpson too three for 25 from eight overs three of which were maidens.

When they responded Dales were indebted to opening David Lawson who batted throughout steering his side to victory. He recorded one six and six fours in an unbeaten 82 and formed a productive second wicket partnership with Jonathan Simpson whose 30 included five fours. The pair added 53 and Dales ended on 142 for three from 28 overs.

Representative match

The Boddingtons Durham Coast League Under-13s easily defeated the Roseberry Group North East Durham League Under-13s when they met for an end of season fixture at Castle Eden.

Batting first the Coast League realised 158 for two and Alex Strange top scored with an unbeaten 51. Craig Bradley added 28 not out and Craig Robinson 22.

Replying the North East Durham League were restricted to 81 for seven of which Burlinson contributed 27.

"It was a lovely day for the youngsters at the picturesque Castle Eden ground. There is no better place to play cricket and we all thoroughly enjoyed the match. We have a number of talented youngsters which augurs well for the future of the league and for their clubs," declared Coast League manager Colin Brammer.

Pyeroy Willis Elliott Cup Final

Whickham carried off the trophy with a four wickets victory over Annnfield Plain.

When Annfield Plain batted first they were all out for 114 which included 55 by Ede and 22 from Caisley. Paul Gray performed well in the Whickham attack and in eight over conceded 13 runs taking four wickets while Andy May had three for 15 from 5.3 overs and Chris Davidson took two for 13 in his six-over spell.

Replying Whickham won losing six wickets when May contributed a top scoring 41 and Brian Levey added 31. Ahmed with figures of two for 28 from five overs was the best of the Annfield Plain bowlers.
