Spennymoor United haven't had much to cheer about recently - but they were happy to receive an award on Tuesday night.

The UniBond League have introduced a Fair Play award this season in each division, and after August's games, Spennymoor were adjudged the First Division winners after receiving just one yellow card.

Chairman Barrie Hindmarch was presented with a bottle of whisky to commemorate their good behaviour before Tuesday night's home game with Ossett Town, which Moors drew 3-3.

However, Moors might not be in line for September's award, as they have already had one player sent off, and five others booked.

Moors dropped two points on Tuesday after leading 3-1 at one stage, and manager Peter Quigley was unhappy with the amount of stoppage time added on by the referee - Ossett capped their comeback by scoring their equaliser in time added on.

"We're annoyed because we could have gone top of the league," he said.

"We shouldn't throw away 3-1 leads, but at least we're still making progress."

Meanwhile Cambridge might have targeted Bishop Auckland defender Mark Salmon.

The defender has been receiving rave reviews this season, and Cambridge manager John Beck was in the crowd last week for the home game with Gateshead.

Bishops are also watching the situation at Darlington with former player Danny Mellanby, who is rumoured to have been watched by First Division Sheffield United.

If Mellanby moves on, then Bishops are entitled to ten per cent of the transfer fee.

Gateshead's season is going well, after they beat Whitby 2-0 at the International Stadium.

Former Darlington striker Robbie Painter continued his good form with a first half goal, while Steve Preen added another in the second half.

Blyth, however, lost to Lancaster City 4-2 on Tuesday night.
