SOMETHING fishy has been going on at a North-East indoor market.
In addition to the usual fare of cod, trout and other everyday fish, IK Fisheries is offering shark steaks at Durham City.
Owner Ian Kennedy said: "The shark was caught locally when it strayed from warmer waters. This isn't the first time we've had shark, but we've also had rarer things such as sturgeon and swordfish when the odd one strays from their natural habitat." The 40lb shark was caught off the coast at Hartlepool by a cod fisherman who regularly supplies IK Fisheries.
It has a solid, meaty texture and strong flavour.
Mr Kennedy said: "It's ideal for grilling or pan frying, as well as for barbecues.
"With people going abroad more, and eating more exotic food there's a good demand for more unusual fish so we're always keen to take some of the more rare ones that are caught locally.
