A TEESSIDE regeneration project has won Government praise.
The achievements of the West Middlesbrough New Deal for Communities (NDC) partnership are highlighted in the first annual review of the national NDC scheme.
A 91-page report by Neighbourhood Renewal Minister, Lord Falconer, sets out examples of good practice, and the work in West Middlesbrough features heavily.
The report praises three projects to improve the quality of life for people living in Newport, West Lane and Whinney Banks as part of the £52m, ten-year programme.
These are a Youth Inclusion project working with 50 "at risk" youngsters to reduce crime and truancy, "I'm delighted the hard work of everyone involved with NDC has been recognised by the Government in this report.
"Residents, businesses and partner agencies are committed to getting projects off the ground that will make a real difference to people's lives.
"The examples highlighted in the report are just some of those that are helping to improve housing and the environment, raise educational standards, improve health, create more job opportunities and tackle crime and the fear of crime."
Chairwoman of the West Middlesbrough People's Forum, Edna Donnelly, said: "NDC has achieved a great deal in its first year."
