HEADLESS horsemen and galloping ghouls will be riding through a Halloween woodland next month.
Members of the Hamsterley Riding Association are appealing for riders to take part in a Halloween ride through Hamsterley Forest on October 28, to raise money for the National Farmers' Union (NFU).
A spokesman for the association said it was organising the ride to show its appreciation of the farming community, which had been affected by the foot-and-mouth virus.
He said: "Riding is very popular in this area and farmers here often encounter riders. Some have bridleways across their land, which they maintain for our benefit. Many of us also rely on local farmers to provide the hay and straw for our horses.
"As riders, we are always grateful for their consideration, and holding the Halloween ride for the local NFU is our way of saying thanks."
Participants are encouraged to wear fancy dress. There will be a fancy dress parade and pumpkin competition.
