MORE than 15,000 householders are being urged to help guarantee themselves a warmer winter by applying for heating and insulation grants.
The Government-funded initiative Warm Front provides grants of up to £2,000 to anyone receiving an income or disability-related benefit.
Figures from the National Office of Statistics show that 15,562 people in North Yorkshire receive benefits and the Warm Front team are hoping the region will benefit substantially from the grants.
"Winter cold seems a long way away at the moment," said Jeanette Senior, coordinator for North Yorkshire.
"But people who apply for Warm Front grants now are more likely to have the work completed quickly, as demands on heating and insulation installers are far greater in the colder months."
Eligible householders are provided with a package of measures tailored to their needs.
The scheme is managed in North Yorkshire by the energy company TXU. The Warm Front helpline is available on Freephone 0800 952 1555 from 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday.
