British Airways resumed flights to the United States last night after the Federal Aviation Administration said it was satisfied with the airline's security.
The first flights from Britain to the US since the terror attacks on New York and Washington, departed yesterday afternoon. Until then, only American and United airlines had permission to fly into the US.
Newcastle Airport had expected a number of US flights to depart and arrive over the past few days, but they were all postponed.
A Britannia Airways flight due to depart from Newcastle Airport to Orlando at 9.30am today is also expected to be cancelled.
No direct flights to or from the US operate from Teesside Airport, but connecting flights to Heathrow and Amsterdam have been going ahead as normal.
Extra security measures at both airports have so far not caused any delays, but passengers are advised to arrive at the airports 30 minutes earlier than normal.
British Airway's reservation number, 0845 779 9977, is open for customer inquiries.
An information line has been established at Newcastle Airport, on 0191-214 3500. Teesside Airport can be contacted on (01325) 332811.
Passengers are advised to contact their airlines direct.
