PLANS for an out-of-hours dental service at Darlington Memorial Hospital are nearing completion.
A service for emergency cases on weekday evenings, weekends and bank holidays is already in operating in Darlington.
But if any immediate treatment is required, the dentist on duty has to open his own surgery.
Discussions on using one of the consulting rooms in the hospital's dental suite are at an advanced stage and the facility is expected to be available soon.
A report to a meeting of the Darlington Primary Care Group said: "The Memorial Hospital is in the process of upgrading the dental suite and the necessary works needed for the out-of-hours service will be undertaken at this time.
"The dentists are happy with the arrangements, as the security and parking is much more suitable than them opening their own surgeries.
