POETS are going out into the community to take the mystery out of verse.
A series of readings is being organised across County Durham as part of the county council's Sharp Stick initiative to promote poetry.
The series, called Unsafe Text, will feature regionally and internationally-known poets, and aims to introduce poetry to people who would not normally read it.
Kevin Cadwallender, the council's poet in residence, will host the showcases in libraries and other community buildings around the county starting in Durham City.
Peter Goldsworthy, from Australia, will start the series at the Colpitts Poetry group in Alington House, North Bailey, Durham City, on October 5.
Linda France will be at Sedgefield Library on November 1. Peter Mortimer will be at Woodview Community Centre, Langley Park, on November 2 and W N Herbert will be at Newton Hall Library on October 7.
On November 11, Nick Toczek will be at the dli in Durham City and Andy Croft will be at Spennymoor Settlement on November 23.
Tickets cost £3 or £1.50 for concessions.
