GLASWEGIAN funny man Billy Connolly has been filming for his new TV series at one of the region's World Heritage sites.
The Big Yin took time out from his sell-out concert performances at Newcastle City Hall to film an item at Hadrian's Wallfor his forthcoming World Tour programme in driving rain.
He took a camera crew to Birdoswald Fort, a few miles west of Haltwhistle, in Northumberland.
Peter de Lange, acting North-East regional director for English Heritage, said: "English Heritage was delighted to be able to accommodate Billy Connolly with the shooting of his new series. I am sure that he was most impressed by what he saw, despite the heavy rainfall on the day.
"We did give him special permission to stand on a particular section of the wall, but this was strictly a one-off request.
"Visitors are not usually allowed to do so in order to prevent damage and to preserve the World Heritage site.
"Billy was very much aware of this and has given an undertaking to tell viewers that they must not climb or walk on any section of the wall.''
