A COUPLE celebrated their golden wedding anniversary close by the church where they married 50 years ago.
Peter and Nancy Murphy, of Hackworth Close, Shildon, celebrated their golden anniversary on Saturday with a family celebration at the town's Flag and Whistle pub.
The couple married in St Thomas' RC Church, Shildon, in 1951, after meeting at a dance in Bishop Auckland Town Hall.
Mr Murphy, 77, worked as a welder at Shildon Carriage Works for 43 years. His wife worked in the works' accounts office.
Mrs Murphy, 72, now lives at South Church Nursing Home. The couple have two children, John and Ann, and four grandchildren
