TEES councils will this week decide whether to give their backing to a new £10m sports retail store which could create 50 jobs.
French sports retailer Decathlon wants to build a 50,000sq ft store at the Portrack Interchange Retail Park in Stockton.
Stockton Borough Council was minded to approve plans, but because of its size it had to be referred to the North-East government office.
A public consultation process is now under way, and the Tees Valley Joint Strategy Committee, which incorporates Darlington, Stockton, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough and Redcar and Cleveland councils, is due to give its backing this week. However, the company will have to wait for at least a year to find out whether the development is approved.
