A HOLIDAYMAKER who is alleged to have told airport security staff that he had Semtex in his pocket appeared in court yesterday.
Michael Brown, of Edgar Grove, Bishop Auckland, County Durham, appeared before Darlington Magistrates' Court charged with making a bomb hoax under the Aviation and Maritime Security Act.
The 20-year-old is alleged to have told a member of the security staff at Teesside International Airport that he was carrying Semtex in his pocket while he was being searched before boarding a plane bound for Tenerife, on Friday evening. The incident occured just days after the terrorist carnage in the US, which resulted in tighter security at the airport.
The case was adjourned and Mr Brown was unconditionally bailed to reappear before Darlington magistrates on October 2.
