PARENTS and children from Darlington's four Catholic primary schools are to stage another protest walk in the town.
They are concerned that Darlington Borough Council's proposed cuts in school transport will prevent some families from sending their children to Carmel College, the town's only Catholic secondary school.
Under the proposals, youngsters will have to live three miles or more from their nearest or most appropriate secondary school to be eligible for free school transport.
At present, the qualifying distance is two miles.
The walk will take place next Wednesday, with parents and children arriving at Darlington Town Hall at about 4.15pm.
The parents organised a protest walk before the summer holidays from the primary schools to Carmel College, to demonstrate how far some children will have to journey to get to the school if the transport changes are approved.
Noelle Brockbank, a member of St Augustine's Action Group, said: "It is coming to the end of the consultation process on this, and we want to let the council know we have not forgotten about it, despite the school summer holidays."
The council's consultation period will be completed at the end of September.
