IF you are in trouble, if no one else can help you and, if you can find them, there is a team of soldiers in North Yorkshire waiting to hear from you.
At the moment, 8 Transport Regiment is in Oman on exercise but, when soldiers from the unit return to Marne Barracks on the old airfield on the edge of Catterick Village, in November, a Community Assistance Project will be among the tasks awaiting them. No decision has yet been made about what it should be - and the Army is inviting suggestions from Civvy Street.
There is no specific limit on manpower - and the regiment has an impressive array of hardware to fall back on if required, including tank transporters and heavy, eight-wheeled DAF drop-loaders.
However, no scheme will be considered if it is likely to steal business from local companies, benefit a particular commercial venture or if it is likely to leave the MoD exposed to claims for costs if the project is left incomplete due to the regiment's operational commitments.
The Army would also be keen to work in partnership with a community organisation, with a single civilian nominated as the project leader.
Anyone who thinks they know of a cause or organisation which could benefit is asked to outline their idea on paper - including sketches and photographs if possible - to Community Assistance Project, 8 Transport Regiment RLC, Marne Barracks, Catterick, Richmond, North Yorkshire DL10 7NP. Requests must be received before the end of November.
