Newton Aycliffe powered their way to a 7-2 victory over Brandon as veteran striker Paul Buxton pulled on the old boots at the grand age of 41.

Buxton came out of retirement for this game due to several players being missing - and the wily fox didn't disappoint, bagging a second-half goal as a substitute.

Buxton bagged more than a thousand goals for the Aycliffe side, and he has the trophy to prove it. But now Buxton is content with watching from the sideline.

Striker Russell Mercer scored twice for Aycliffe, while Craig Murray, James Miller, Craig Evans and Andy Lee were also on the scoresheet, with Miller winning the man of the match award.

Striker Peter Boucher was on target twice for Brandon and won the man-of-the-match award.

Meanwhile, Salvins won their second game with a 4-1 win over struggling Croxdale. Kenny Dufferwell put Salvins into a 1-0 lead, but an own goal levelled.

Dufferwell added his second after the break, before Mark Nicholson and Glynn Troop added the third and fourth to clinch the three points.

Huntsman and Royal George came to a stalemate after eight goals ended in a 4-4 draw.

The two sides - who went up from Division Two last season - both failed to show what qualities gained them promotion to the top flight.

Goals from Steve Woodward, Dave Clay, Marc De Lucia and Dave Welsh should have won the game for the Huntsman, but they squandered two second-half leads in miserable fashion to earn just a point. Karl Dawson, Pat Bowtell and Daryll Meadows (2) were on target for the George, while David Leighton was man-of-the-match; Huntsman's was De Lucia.

Black Horse skipped into the quarter-finals of the Second Division Cup after a thrilling 12-goal encounter at the North Briton.

Injury-torn North Briton could only field 10 men against the in-form Horse, which meant the home side were always going to struggle, but they made Horse work hard for their 7-5 victory.

The visitors took an early lead, but Brian Burniston levelled shortly after, and then his team went in front after Phil Judge curled in. The Horse equalised and added another. Black Horse hit two more before Brit pulled one back through Andy Brennan and they added another from Den Tounson. Horse made it 7-4. But the 10 brave men of the Brit never gave up and they grabbed a consolation with a fantastic Francis Hannan strike.

Broompark Loves, Binchester Social Club, Brawns Den, Postchaise, Two Blues, Spennymoor Thorns and Green Tree all join the Black Horse in the quarter-finals.
