HAMSTERLEY Riding Association is transforming itself into an amateur witches' coven in preparation for some Halloween fun in the forest.
The area has been off limits to riders for much of the year due to the foot-and-mouth precautions.
All proceeds will be donated to the local branch of the NFU as a gesture of support for farmers in Hamsterley and the surrounding area. The ride takes place on Sunday, October 28.
A spokesman said: "We are organising the ride to show our appreciation of our farming community, many of whom have sadly been affected by the virus."
Some maintained bridleways across their land for riders and others were relied on to provide hay and straw for the horses.
"On a lighter note, we are hoping to give a whole new meaning to the phrase spooky horse, as we're encouraging riders to come in fancy dress, though it is optional."
As well as the fancy dress parade there will be a pumpkin competition, with rosettes and prizes. A choice of routes will be available and adult and junior riders are welcome.
