A NORTH-EAST girl who lost both her legs in an accident which killed her two young friends was given a special 18th birthday present when her boy-friend proposed.
At Easter 1993, Leigh-Ann Johns, then just nine, was playing with her friends, Rachel and Maria Reed, when a car ploughed into them, killing Rachel and Maria, aged eight and six.
Leigh-Ann marked her birthday with a party for 200 of her friends and family. The day became more memorable when boyfriend Phillip Boseley got down on one knee and proposed.
The couple have no intentions to marry just yet, but will live at her home in Dover Close, while she studies for a medical administration course, at nearby Redcar and Cleveland College.
