Worthington CIU Summer League - Wheatley Hill A clinched the League Championship in their penultimate game when they only dropped one point on their visit to Fishburn A.
The Hill took the first four points through Ronnie Peacock, Alan Hall, Dennis Clish and Dave Walker with John Carter taking the final frame for the home side.
Spennymoor B took the Third Division Championship after they only dropped one point at Hunwick. The Moors took the first four points through Wayne Parry, Alan Rowell, Micky Anderson and Kurt McCormick with Des Mason putting Hunwick on the score sheet in the final frame.
The Second Division title was thrown wide open when the leading Ferryhill team only managed one point at home to challengers, Langley Park. Kevin Keers took the first frame for the Park with Les Lewis levelling. From there the visitors took over with wins from Ray Coates, Paul Nord and Stephen Coates. This leaves Ferryhill two points clear of Brandon with the teams meeting in the final game of the season.
Sherburn Village share the second place with Brandon, but have completed their programme with an odd point victory at Meadowfield, who faied to send the score card in. Langley Park are three points adrift of Ferryhill.
There was a shock in the First Division when Wheatley Hill B, already doomed to relegation, beat the visiting second placed Old Shildon in the decider. Stephen Bennett put Shildon ahead with Steve Cave levelling. Michael Pratt restored the visitor's lead only to see Dave Blyth equalise. In the decider, the Hill's Tony Ellison beat Billy Goggins.
Newton Aycliffe moved into third place in the First Division with a home win over Stanley Central, who were pushed further down towards relegation. Jim Dufton took the only point for the Central, whilst Michael Hewitt, Bill Barrigan, John Briddick with a 30 break and Ritchie Young won for the home side.
Spennymoor A won their home relegation battle against Shotton Palms by the odd point. John Wilson put the Moors ahead with Barry Hall equalising. Kevin Welsh restored the home lead but Paul Hickman pulled Shotton level. In the decider the Moors, Paul Biddle beat Jimmy Evans. This leaves both teams level, just two points better off than Stanley Central.
Ian Renwick was in sparkling form for Witton Gilbert at home to Willington when he put in breaks of 31 and 54 but he only found Willis Joynes as a fellow winner. Willington had points from Arthur Goldsborough, Tom Parkin and Jeremy Martin.
Newhouse A only dropped one frame in their derby match against the B team, who had Tom McQuillan as their only winner. The A team's points came from Steve Mountain, Harry Dinsdale, Ian Dinsdale and Jimmy Hassen.
Crook Belle Vue almost made certain of avoiding relegation from the Second Division after they beat the already doomed visitors from Durham City. Harold Lomax, Ken Rider and Norman Slack scored the points for Crook, with Michael Pratt and Gary Ward scoring for the City.
West Auckland only need one point from their final match to take the runners-up spot in the Third Division after they beat the visiting challengers from Fishburn B. West had points from Paul Vickers, David Geraty and Andrew Dent with Alan Wilson and Michael Bell replying. This leaves West Auckland five points clear of Hunwick, Crowtrees and Fishburn B.
Scariston had wins from Willy Nixon and Alan Richardson in their home game against Leeholme A. However Barry Shaw and Lawrence Jones equalised and the visitors went to victory when Tony Clish beat Gary Barton in the decider.
The League's wooden spoon looks likely to go to Leeholme B after they went down at home to fellow strugglers, Tow Law. The home side were twice ahead but went down in the decider when Alan Spence, making his debut for the Lawyers, beat Mark Brown. Earlier John Taylor and Karl Thompson had scored for Leeholme with Tommy Williams and Alf Edwards winning for Tow Law.
l The Annual Presentation Evening will be held in Spennymoor Club on a Saturday night in early November. The event is always a sell-out so teams requiring tickets must book them at the meeting in Meadowfield Club on Thursday, September 27.

Crook League
ewly-promoted, Crook Mill House put up a good first performance in their first match in the First Division but just went down in the deciding doubles against the visiting Crook Coach and Horses. The home side had singles wins from Rob Bannister, Alan Bibby and Alan Saville with the Coach and Horses pulling level with wins from Eric Machin, Adam Martin and Phil Tobin. In the deciding doubles the Coach edged through to victory when Paul Fiddis and Phil Tobin beat the Mill's Ian Bibby and Mark Nicholls.
Reigning champions, Crook Olde Horse Shoe A recorded the best win of the first day of the new season when they only dropped one point to the visiting Crook Queen's Head A. Last season's runners-up, Crook Travellers Rest B almost matched the Shoe's big win when they hit five against their B team.
