THE glorious history of one of the region's most famous stately homes is being brought to life as part of a major new tourism drive.
A costumed character of Sir John Vanbrugh, the 18th Century architect of Castle Howard, will be making regular visits to the home to launch the enhanced visitor experience.
From tomorrow, Sir John's alter-ego will be at the house, near Malton, North Yorkshire, twice a week to discuss his influence on the founding of the estate.
It is the first time costumed characters have been introduced to Castle Howard and the idea is the brainchild of new head of visitor services, Richard Kemp.
He said: "The changes are evolutionary. They are in keeping with the times. There are thousands of visitors to Castle Howard every year.
"They will continue to get what they want, but we are now offering something that could attract thousands more visitors here."
