Elvet Striders - There was a good turn out of runners for the Bishop Auckland 10k road race.
On-form Ian Donnachie put in a fine run on the day and was the first Strider home with a time of 38:56, he was followed by Alan Parnaby in 39:32.

The next road race was the ABC Scaffolding Coxhoe 10k, the weather on the day was very windy so this made it hard for any personal best times to be achieved. First home for the club and in fourth overall was Paul Dunn in a time of 38:55. This was Paul's best position so far in a road race and he was followed by Alan Parnaby in 41:25.

In the first of three off road races, called the wild race series Jan Young was third female overall at Hamsterley forest in a time of 69:00 over a seven mile course which followed the forest trails and logging tracks.

Peter Vickers was again in top form in the Grand Prix final for Under-20 athletes at Moorsway Stadium, Derby.
Although only 17, he finished fifth of 16 invited athletes and was the only athlete from the North of England to reach the final.
He won the 100m in 11.41 into a strong head win and was runner-up in the 200m in 23.10 and he completed his events with 5.60m to claim fifth place and he will be eligible for the next two seasons. His final race will be in the NJAL Promotion match at Cleckheaton this weekend.
Teammate, Elaine Smith was in action for the North of England in the Home Counties Under-20 international match at Ipswich when she won with a leap of 5.90m to round off a season which has seen her win the English Schools title as well as the AAA title and she also represented Great Britain against the USA as well as travelling to France with the Great Britain team.
It will be her final year in the junior age group next season and an improvement on her best distance of 5.97m by a few centimetres should gain her selection for the European junior and World junior championships.
