THE winners of a competition organised by The Northern Echo were presented with their environmentally-friendly prizes yesterday.
The Mortimer family, from Darlington, entered the Doing Your Bit competition and won a host of green prizes for their efforts to help the environment.
Sarah and Sam are involved in a variety of different green initiatives, including car-share schemes and cycling to work.
Their children, Luke, Jeremy and Michael, also do their bit by recycling rubbish and turning off lights.
The editor of The Northern Echo, Peter Barron, presented a wind-up radio to the family and other environmentally-friendly gifts.
The competition was run in conjunction with the Darlington Borough Council and was held to publicise the national Are You Doing Your Bit? campaign, which includes a roadshow touring 22 venues around the country.
The roadshow was in Darlington market place yesterday and will be at town's Safeway car park today. Visitors were able to pick up tips on caring for the environment and collect free gifts from the roadshow.
A group of youngsters from Mount Pleasant Primary School were on hand to help the Mortimers celebrate.
