TRAINEES who enrole on an unusual course near Ripon will have the chance to learn how to build their own log cabins.
George Fuller, one of the world's leading exponents of the craft, is travelling from Norway to teach the skill.
The course at Laverton, seven miles west of Ripon, from October 1 to 12, was arranged by Jonathan Walker, a self-employed forestry manager from Kirkby Malzeard, who went to Norway earlier this year to fulfil a lifelong ambition to build a cabin.
The course is run with the support of the Yorwoods upland Yorkshire woodland project, at Aske, near Richmond, which can offer grants and planning permission.
The course fee of £560 plus Vat includes hire of tools and machinery. For details, contact Mr Walker on (01765) 658258 or 07932 769337.
